DDB MARKET | SPRING MARKET 2012

DDB MARKET | SPRING MARKET 2012

I’m honoured to be invited to cover the this year’s Spring Market Event 2012.

Delighted to share with you the events of today at the D&D Building featuring interior design products from furniture.  First event of the day to be covered is the art of bed making featured at the Lorin Marsh Showroom on the 7th floor.  Featuring the talent of Gideon MendelsonBrendan Kwinter Schwartz and Neal Beckstedt.  Each designer shared their personal design approach to selection of fabric, design to setting.  A layering of textures to simple dressing.

The bedroom is a place where we all need to take a moment to invest in quality. The hours we close our eyes for our body and mind to rejuvenate takes up a substantial amount of time in each of our days.  Quality linens and presentation are sometimes overlooked or regarded as a luxury to many.  This is a gift you can all give yourself that plays key to how you start and end your day. I’m pretty sure that once you experience quality linens layered with the welcoming of a bed that looks put together just waiting for you … you will perhaps consider making the bed more often and investing in higher quality sheets.  Why wait to having the feeling of a good bed like you do when you treat yourself to the luxury of a good hotel room … have your bed at home be the place you feel good to come home to and amazing to wake from.

MODER604. FOOD

I recently went out for dinner with some friends to Maenam located in the heart of Kitsilano. Rarely do we venture out to the west side of Vancouver (no car makes it just that much harder to get out there) and even more rare is that we go out for Thai food in this city. Usually if we are craving Thai, we will make a few simple dishes at home, nothing too fancy.

I love the overall concept and feel of Maenam. It aims to be a more ‘fine dining’ Thai experience but still maintains a friendly, fun and vibrant atmosphere. Chef Angus An offers a variety of tasty dishes with very authentic ingredients and flavours. The portions are not enormous but are a decent size guaranteeing that you will walk away feeling satisfied (and hopefully full). The favorite dish of the night was the duck curry, but of course the classic pad thai was also fantastic.

Open 7 days a week….make sure you put it on your list of places to try if you haven’t already.

MODERN604 . RETAIL . FASHION

Roden Gray is a menswear (soon to be womenswear) store in the heart of Gastown in Vancouver. The store has a simple, sleek interior that combines the use wood, concrete and glass.

Interior Design: Vincent Cook

The interior also features custom designed and built wooden crates for displaying merchandise giving the overall space a playful feel. Each of the crates is individually tagged using laser cut type which adds a ‘raw’ element to the space.

The basement level is small and intimate and features most of the stores denim lines. I really like the use of this rough ‘tree trunk’ shelf that floats along the longest back wall and holds stacks of jeans.
